Arsenal made a powerful statement on the opening night of the 2026/27 Premier League season, defeating newly promoted Coventry City 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Friday.

Mikel Arteta's reigning champions dominated from the start and quickly showed why they are among the leading contenders to retain the league title.

Kai Havertz opened the scoring before Bukayo Saka doubled Arsenal's advantage. Captain Martin Ødegaard then completed the victory with a third goal after the break.

The result provided Arsenal with the perfect beginning to their title defence, particularly after their impressive 3-0 Community Shield victory over Manchester City the previous weekend.

New signing Christos Tzolis also caught attention with his involvement in Arsenal's first two goals, offering supporters an early glimpse of what he could contribute during the campaign.

For Coventry, the match marked their first Premier League appearance since 2001 after winning the Championship last season. Despite their determined effort, Frank Lampard's side struggled to contain Arsenal's attacking quality and control.

Arsenal will now look to build on this impressive opening as they pursue another Premier League championship and attempt to establish themselves as England's dominant force once again.
