Exciting times ahead as we look forward to the resumption of premier league actions this weekend. Coming up this Saturday is yet another exciting and much-anticipated fixture as Arsenal set to host Southampton at the Emirates Stadium as they aim to return to winning ways.
Arsenal are yet to win a game in their last 4 premier league games and are currently sitting 6th on the table and 8 points below Man City. This season hasn’t gone smoothly for the Gunners even though they started pretty well compared to how they started last season, however, things have begun to go downhill for them. They face Southampton this Saturday, a game that is quite a tricky one as Southampton are battling in the relegation zone and would be fighting to get out of there.
Expected formation and tactics, Arsenal will be expected to set up in either a 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 formation. Emery has shown that he likes to explore different formations and can use any formation that he deems fit for the match, which makes it almost impossible to predict his formation. Their gameplan in this game will be to attack and use their qualities to create enough chances to win the game.
Southampton are having a disaster of a season, they are currently sitting in 19th position on the premier league table, just 1 point above Norwich. Nevertheless, there is still enough time to gain enough points to survive. Another difficult game for them this Saturday as they head to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal who are also desperate to get their first win after 4 games in a row. However, Southampton have shown in previous seasons that they are capable of upsetting the top teams on their day.
Expected formation and tactics, Southampton will be expected to set up in a 3-4-3 formation. Their game plan in this game will most likely be to stay very compact and try to hit Arsenal on the counter-attack whenever they have the opportunity to. They will also be looking to take advantage of set-pieces as well to hurt Arsenal. This post can also be found on my scorum blog
