Premier league actions resume this Saturday… The EFL cup quarter-final fixtures are over now as we anticipate the semifinals. This weekend packs a lot of exciting fixtures with key fixtures being the Man City vs Leicester City and Spurs vs Chelsea games. Man City kicks off their premier league matchday 18 action at home against Leicester City who are in super form this season.
Man City are not having the season they would have wished for. We all expected them to be very close to Liverpool at this stage of the season but they are already 14 points behind Liverpool at the moment which has never happened since Pep took over at City. As it stands at the moment, Liverpool are looking more and more likely to run away with the premier league title. Man City have a great chance to reduce the gap this Saturday against Leicester City at home, however, earning the crucial 3 points against Leicester would reduce the gap only if Liverpool fails to get 3 points in their fixture as well. This is a really tough game for Man City as Leicester City have been really strong this season under Rodgers.
Expected formation and tactics – Man City will be expected to set up in a 4-3-3 formation. As usual, Man City will want to dominate possession and will be looking to attack and to capitalize on any spaces in the game to get the job done and if possible annihilate Leicester City if they have the opportunity to and also if the game becomes too easy than expected.
Leicester City are on fire this season, similar to the season they won the league, but this time, they play more expansive and attacking football than they did during their unbelievable and unthinkable title-winning season. They are still unbeaten for over 8 games now and stand a huge chance of getting a result against Man City at the Etihad. They are the only team closest to Liverpool and a win against Man City would draw them even closer to the title race. However, it wouldn’t be an easy task for them as Man City at home can be a huge mountain to climb for any team in world football. Notwithstanding, with the way Leicester City have been playing this season, it would be logical to think that they can get something out of this game if they put in a top-quality performance.
Expected formation and tactics – Leicester City will be expected to set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. They like to play football as we all know Rodgers team like to, but will be fine to soak up the pressure and capitalize on counter-attacking opportunities in the game.
