In these hard times, a lot of travelers have been affected when their already booked flights were put on hold or cancelled. Good news coming from the Dutch KLM company indicates that travelers that booked for their travel flights are to wear smiles when the airline traveling transportation resumes. It is stated that the voucher will be 15 percent worth than the original usual ticket price. This means that anyone who had booked a KLM flight and due to COVID19 disruption compensated with this kind of a voucher, should make sure that it is kept safe because of its current value. This Dutch KLM airline made the move in hope that this will make it more attractive for travelers to opt for a voucher instead of a refund.
This development was announced on 14th May 2020 by KLM that travelers whose flights are canceled from this week on will get a choice between a voucher and a cash refund, however it should be noted by affected travelers that KLM will not exchange any already issued vouchers for cash until 12 months after the voucher was issued. After that period ends, voucher holders will get a cash refund for any unspent amount left on the voucher.
It is also important to note that all travelers who were issued a voucher for a flight canceled before May 14 will still get the 15 percent bonus value. If the vouchers are not used within 12 months, the 15 percent extra value lapses again and KLM will refund the original ticket price, or any amount left on the voucher minus the extra 15 percent.
One reason why travelers should applause KLM's move with the approval support of the Dutch government and the European Union's position on consumers' right to a refund that should be considered in situations like this which can not be shrugged off just as most airlines are doing using all sorts of exit excuses.
Great words of the Dutch Consumer Association Consumentenbond stressed it on 14th May 2020 that that the organization was pleased with the bonus scheme offered by KLM as a way of incentives to customers to take a voucher instead of a cash refund even if it was disappointed that the airline was not opening up more possibilities for passengers affected since March to get the cash many of them desperately need in these hard hit times faced by many globally.
Many travelers (Customers) around the world who booked flights to various destinations especially using European Airliners stress it that they are obliged to get their money back under European law, and the European Commission agreed even though KLM airline is still stuck to their stance that the extraordinary circumstances released them from the obligation to immediately refund money owed.
Other Dutch flight companies such as Transavia are not yet open on any compensation strategy for their clients. To date Transavia, which is a KLM daughter company has no immediate plans to issue cash refunds, and would continue to give vouchers instead.
