Georgia, which is also known as The Peach State and has a vast musical history across all genres. I will try to summarize top hit and name makers across most of the genres. You might be surprised as well.

 

Rock-n-Roll

  • Little Richard, also known as the “Architect of Rock and Roll”, combined elements of boogie, gospel, and blues, creating the standard rock rhythm with  the smash hit “Tutti Frutti”.
  • Allman Brothers - from Macon, GA their is a tribute Museum in Macon to visit and explore more.
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd  - was not officially from GA however, their guitarist Gary Rossington was
  • Otis Redding - was born in Dawson, GA
  • R.E.M, the B-52's and a few others came out of the Athens, GA area... Go DAWGS!

 

Country

Currently country music is being dominated by Georgia county boys such as

  • Ray Charles - WOW, what a legend, I missed his last tour date nearby due to the flu. Still wish I would have went.

can be traced all the way back to the time of plantations and slaves

  • James Brown's music career started in Taccoa, GA as a gospel singer

Summary 

The Georgia musical influences pushed into other areas of the Southern US.  For example, the Marshall Tucker band & Chubby Checker are from South Carolina. Just a quick car ride across the state lines to learn some new licks.
