I believe that the importance of cell phones is undeniable. With them, the advancement in communication and connectivity has been gigantic. Today, you can deal with work matters and talk to friends and family through messaging apps and social networks. It is essential for businesses as an access point to you, through networks or by phone number.

With this tool, access to information and news is in the palm of your hand. It is possible to know what is happening at this exact second on the other side of the world, with extreme ease. In addition, we have the most diverse applications that expand the basic functions of communication, GPS and others to another level, helping in productivity and health with constant monitoring.

With so many incredible features that help in everyday life, you may wonder what invisible dangers these are, that can make this tool a real test of endurance. The first of these invisible dangers are the notifications that appear as an audible and visual warning, which can draw the user's attention at the exact moment they appear. But what's the problem with that, you must be wondering. With the advancement of connectivity, increased use of applications and communication speed, the number of notifications has increased considerably.

But not only that, when you know that a notification has appeared and you don't know what it is, it almost immediately generates the desire to know what it is about, and the fear of not knowing if you are missing something important is called FOMO. This feeling generates anxiety because, by not knowing, you will start to imagine several scenarios in your head, worrying about what the notification that a new video has arrived on your favorite YouTube channel could be.

Is there a balance? The Future of Technology!

The advancement of technology has been aligned with the advancement of algorithms and the implementation of AI in them so that they learn and improve with each interaction. Thus, it is common to use social networks on devices, the point is that they learn about what you like, making you spend as much time using them as possible, since they earn from viewing advertisements. Data points to a correlation between mental health problems in adolescents who use social media for longer, indicating that they are more vulnerable to digital content. Although there is no clear causality, we have not had enough time or studies to analyze all the impacts. We will only know in the future, but could it be too late?

How can we combat a technology programmed to make you happy, sending dopamine to your brain, with easy rewards of short videos in the palm of your hand that make you want to watch more and more and always come back to keep watching? As Uncle Ben would say: “With great power comes great responsibility”. While cell phones help you in your day-to-day life and can be a fundamental tool for your work, they can also be the worst enemy of productivity and focus.

The goal is to seek as much balance as possible, and this will, over time, require more and more of your self-control, because technology will continue to evolve to keep you stuck. So, some tips are: use timers to have a limited amount of time to use your cell phone; keep distractions away as much as possible by putting your cell phone away; Finally, a simple tip is to turn off notifications and set a specific time to see what's new, being careful not to stay on it longer than necessary.

You should learn about the dangers and improve your control so that technology is a tool you use, and not that you are used as data input for algorithms or as a number of views.
