For today's retro Friday series I suggest a look back in time at some snapshots of websites. Hows did our favourite places on the Internet looked like decades ago? Time travelling is made possible with website like The Internet Archive also known as Way Back Machine and Memento which incorporates also the way back machine. If you like the idea of an archive or Museum of the Internet you might like also to visit the world's first and oldest registered .com domain name which is now turned into a virtual museum called symbolics.com.
Looking back at older snapshots or images of websites gives people a chance to revisit old times or simply learn how the Interne, web navigation was born. Or it can just be a fun way spend an easy Friday afternoon and relax while waiting for the weekend mood to load.

To travel back in time on Memento, you have to write the exact bame of the website you wish to see in the search engine, then hit search.

From the results click the time slot that you want and then open the time capture of the website. You will be shown the snapshot for that website at that specific time in past.

Here is how Facebook used to look back in the days:
Facebook before Facebook, was About FAce and it looked like that in 2000, but it would be amazing to find it was around as soon as Google and Amazon (just it was a small embryo, like them at the start):

Then, here is when Facebook started to look more like what we are used to today:
in 2006:

and in 2007:

So, that was it for today, please note that here I included just a small sample - my navigation actually took 1-2 hours as I found it fascinating to visit the vritual Museum of the Internet. Feel free to do the same - but I suggest after a good sleep or a long forest walk / or both - is good to take care of yourself first before spending too much resources or overusing what today is so easily accessible at our fingertips.
Think about the cool things you used to do during 1998, 1999 and 2000s - why not retry them today and forget a little about the vast world wide web, to give it a break for a while and try to relive those times.
Feel free to let me know what you think about my retroFridays column if you want to to the #retroFridays #Publish0xchallenge - I would be very happy top mention me in your post so I can read it. (have no idea if the hashtags are needed here...anyways, the idea you get)
