To explain this delay, we must look at the transactions made by digital payment in Japan ... only 20% of purchases are paid digitally. For comparison, China has a figure close to 65%.
Japan has a big digital infrastructure base and should catch up quite easily, but Japan will be able to compete with China, I'm not so sure.
