Going back to the past helps us understand what can happen in the future. Let's have a look at the coins which existed ten years ago.
The following cryptocurrencies existed in December 2012: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Namecoin, Peercoin, Novacoin, Feathercoin, Primecoin, Terracoin, Devcoin, Worldcoin, Megacoin, BitcoinDark, Anoncoin, Mincoin, and Freicoin.
Bitcoin (BTC)
Bitcoin was created in 2009 by an unknown individual or group of people under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. It was designed to be a peer-to-peer electronic cash system that is decentralized, meaning that it is not controlled by any single person or institution.
Litecoin (LTC)
Litecoin is a decentralized, open source digital currency created in October 2011 by Charlie Lee, a former Google employee. It is a peer-to-peer Internet currency that enables instant, near-zero cost payments to anyone in the world. Litecoin is based on an open source global payment network that is not controlled by any central authority. With substantial industry support, trade volume and liquidity, Litecoin is a proven medium of commerce complementary to Bitcoin.
Namecoin (NMC)
Namecoin is a decentralized, open-source cryptocurrency that was created in April 2011 as an alternative to Bitcoin. It operates on a peer-to-peer network, and its main purpose is to provide a secure and decentralized way to store and transfer data, such as domain names and website information. Namecoin also allows users to register and transfer domain names, which are stored in a distributed public ledger, instead of relying on a centralized server.
NMC current value ist around US$1, whereas its ATH was US$8.
Peercoin (PPC)
Peercoin is a digital cryptocurrency that uses a peer-to-peer (P2P) network to manage transactions and generate new coins. It is based on a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus system, which allows users to generate new coins by holding coins in their wallet. Peercoin is designed to provide low transaction fees and secure, sustainable long-term growth.
PPC current value ist around US$0.37, whereas its ATH was $7.
The other coins, Novacoin, Feathercoin, Primecoin, Terracoin, Devcoin, Worldcoin, Megacoin, BitcoinDark, Anoncoin, Mincoin, and Freicoin have experienced various fates:
- Novacoin, Feathercoin, Primecoin, Terracoin, Worldcoin and Freicoin are still tradable on a few exchanges;
- Devcoin, Megacoin, BitcoinDark, Anoncoin ans Mincoin cannot be traded anymore.
In summary, most of the cryptos that existed have disappeared or almost disappeared, except Bitcoin and Litecoin.
Therefore, we can wonder what will happen in ten years from now with the cryptos that exist today. Which ones will survive? Will Cardano (ADA), DogeCoin (DOGE) and Ripple (XRP) still exist in 2033? Please feel free to let me know your thoughts...
