I tried the Berachain testnet but didn’t get the airdrop—did you? Honestly, it’s frustrating. I spent time testing the ecosystem, expecting some rewards, but apparently, I didn’t make the cut. Now, I’m wondering: is it still worth buying BERA, or is this just another overhyped project?
Berachain Tokenomics: How Does It Work?
Berachain stands out because of its unique Proof-of-Liquidity (PoL) model, where validators don’t just stake tokens—they stake liquidity. This could create long-term demand for BERA, since liquidity needs to stay locked rather than being dumped on the market.
Berachain’s ecosystem revolves around three tokens:
- BERA – The gas token used for transactions.
- HONEY – A stablecoin within the network.
- BGT (Berachain Governance Token) – Used for governance and staking.
The PoL mechanism means that staking liquidity earns BGT, which is then used to vote on network emissions and incentives. In theory, this could create a strong flywheel effect, where early participants benefit the most and liquidity remains high.
A Smarter Strategy: Farming BGT Instead of Buying BERA
Rather than buying BERA directly, a solid strategy is using Berachain protocols to earn BGT, which can be redeemed for BERA. This allows you to accumulate governance power while avoiding buying at potentially inflated prices. In my video, I go over some of the best Berachain DeFi protocols to farm BGT efficiently.
Should You Buy BERA?
Here’s my dilemma: airdrops bring hype, but once claimers dump their tokens, will Berachain retain enough users? If the PoL model works, liquidity incentives could keep people engaged, but it’s still unclear how the market will react post-launch.
I’m still deciding whether to buy in now or wait for more price discovery. What about you? Did you get the airdrop, or are you in the same boat as me?
