The operation is based on a technology that has been around for several years, namely Unstructured Supplementary Data (USSD). Those who knew about the origin of the mobile phone may remember the code "#123#" which, by dialing it on a mobile phone, made it possible to know the status of their consumption. This is the USSD code. Each code is created to perform a specific action. In case we are interested, using a specific code depending on the country - for example *134*382*382# for South Africa - you can set an address in the lighting network, directly related to the phone number. Simple push button phone (normal mobile phone), no smartphone needed.

Machancura is still very young. The service should expand rapidly in the future to cover more countries, maybe not necessarily African by the way, but it currently covers Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda.
