Excel Formulas: SUM

Today we are going to learn about the basic function of the SUM formula. This formula comes in handy when you need to add many cells within a table without having to manually add them yourself.

SUM

=SUM(value1,value2,value3,...)
Adds all the numbers in a range of cells

In our example we want to add the total amount of sales within the table below:

Here we can see the =SUM function provided the total in the table by sale price.

Our goal is to find the sum, or the total amount of profit made from the sales of all the products. The range we need are cells E3 through E8.

Our formula should look like this:  =SUM(E3:E8)
