Looking over Colorado Springs from Cheyenne Mountain

MyUplandCity Choice, Colorado Springs

While my city isn't exactly gigantic or famous, it does have a lot going for it. I would say that this city is a melting pot of people, customs and ideals. There are 5 military bases that sit around here, so we have people from just about everywhere that live here. We have all sorts of festivals throughout the year to celebrate all different holidays and to honor past events and people. For example we have the Memorial Day balloon glow and balloon race during Memorial Day, we have Territory Days looking back to when this was a small western town, and we have a weekend where firefighters from all over have events and party downtown. Right before the rodeo season we also have a longhorn steer run downtown where longhorns are let loose, safely, down one of our main downtown streets for people to watch and enjoy.

Pikes Peak

We are right below the majestic Pikes Peak mountain that is popular for hiking, camping and fishing. Fly-fishing is very popular in the mountain streams just up the mountain from us.  For spelunkers we have Cave of the Winds just up the foothills where you can go on several different tours and explore the inside of the mountain.

If you are a college football fan you can come watch the Air Force Academy games and when the USAFA students graduate you can come by and watch a spectacular airshow from the Thunderbirds! For baseball fans we host the Rocky Mount Vibes who are associated with the Pioneer League.

We have a pretty good nightlife downtown where you can get classic rock, country, hip hop and more to dance the night away.

If you like art and history we have the Colorado Springs Fine Arts museum, the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum and the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. Recently the US Olympic and Paralympic Museum was build by the down town area. If you want to get into the history of the local area, you can also visit the Flying W. Ranch and see what the old west lifestyle was all about.

For nature lovers that don't want to have to trek up into the mountains we have the Garden of the Gods park here where the famous Kissing Camels rock formation calls home as well as some classic Colorado wildlife.

Colorado springs is usually a pretty laid back city with lots of history to it and if you look in the right areas you can find some amazing and fascinating buildings, people and nature.

All in all, Colorado Springs has a lot going for it in a little area and a great many things to see in just a short drive.

P.S. We also have some fantastic sunsets around here.
