Thoughts: 90/10 Principle
"Our future has an infinite possible realities..."
Are you sick of your life because of the circumstances that oppose your plans and goals?
The 90/10 principle was popularised by Stephen Covey, a great author. This principle could help us better govern our self in regard to what is happening arround us. Some people had already given up their goals and dreams due to disappointments and successive failures. Are you one of those who is on the brink of surrendering and waving the white flag?
Most people tend to focus more on the present and occurring problem, rather than widening his or her views of the possible resolve which he or she could get. This is the "Tunnel Vission—" where we focus on the straight path that would lead us to the end of the tunnel, but at the same time—loses our ability to see on our peripheral perspective. If we persist on practicing this kind of perception, opportunities might slip away from our hands; negativities, frustration, and discouragement would colud over our mind—leaving us hopeless and devastated.
Our future has an infinite possible realities depending on our actions in the present time. One action, whether be positive or negative, would open a door for a new set of choices. This cycle would go on forever and ever as long as we live. Those doors that we already opened led us here. This present reality is the consequence of our choices made in the past. Think of this, "what could have happen better if I had chosen a better choice a month ago, a years ago, or a century ago?" though we may have some regrets, life doesn't stop for those. This is the time where a new set of doors is laid in front of us. Can you afford to lose again?
The 90/10 principle is very simple to comprehend. In our life, The 10% are the circumstances which we cannot control no matter what. The 90% is how are we going to react and respond on those circumstances—this is what we can obviously control.
To a look at this scenario.
You got a final examination, but you are already late because of the heavy traffic. You arrived ten minutes late and your teacher scolds you because of that, but she is willing to let you take the exam. You already had a bad morning due to the heavy traffic, you answer back on your teacher with a high tone of voice. Your teacher finds it very disrespectful, and does not allow you to take the final examination. Because you were unable to take the exam, you fail on her subject. Now, you have to enroll on a summer class with another tuition fee to be paid of.
Have you seen the negative consequences of the negative actions we make? No one wants a heavy traffic, you cannot control it. You cannot control the scolding of the teacher, she has her own decision. But who can control your emotions and actions? It is just you.
Supposing that you just apologize and speak with a respectful voice, what are the possibilities? How would the consequences be different?
Evaluate yourselves. Try to live this 90/10 principle and see the difference.
