THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CORONA VIRUS

According to the World Health Organization, Coronavirus is a disease that primarily spreads through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze.

The virus is also stated that it spreads when a person touches a surface or object that has the virus on it, then proceeds to touch their eyes, nose, or mouth.

The disease causes respiratory illness (like the flu) with symptoms such as a cough, fever, and in more severe cases, difficulty breathing. You can protect yourself by washing your hands frequently, avoiding touching your face, and avoiding close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell.

SYMPTOMS:

People may be sick with the virus for 1 to 14 days before developing symptoms. The most common symptoms of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment.
More rarely, the disease can be serious and even fatal. Older people, and people with other medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease), may be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill.

People may experience:
-cough
-fever
-tiredness
-difficulty in breathing (severe cases)

PREVENTION:

You can protect yourself and help prevent spreading the virus to others if you:

DO:
Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub
Cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze.

Avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell

Stay home and self-isolate from others in the household if you feel unwell

DON’T:
Touch your eyes, nose, or mouth if your hands are not clean

TREATMENT:

SELF CARE:
If you have mild symptoms, stay at home until you’ve recovered. You can relieve your symptoms if you:
-rest and sleep
-keep warm
-drink plenty of liquids
-use a room humidifier or take a hot shower to help ease a sore throat and cough

MEDICAL TREATMENTS:

If you develop a fever, cough, and have difficulty breathing, promptly seek medical care. Call in advance and tell your health provider of any recent travel or recent contact with travelers.

FOLLOW UPS:

How long can it stay airborne?

According to a study done by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases’ Laboratory of Virology in the Division of Intramural Research in Hamilton, Montana helps to answer this question. The researchers used a nebulizer to blow coronaviruses into the air. They found that infectious viruses could remain in the air for up to three hours. The results of the study were published in the New England Journal of Medicine on March 17, 2020.

Can children get corona virus?

According to the New England Journal of Medicine on March 18, 2020, most of them are around 6-10 year olds, mostly male, that mostly showed having pneumonia. All showed the signs of cough and fever, with temperatures spanning higher than 37.5 celsius, and the highest recorded is 39 celsius above. Some also experienced fatigue, diarrhea, nasal congestion and vomiting.

Can vaping or smoking, increase the risk of a severe corona virus infection?

Though there are only few studies conducted about this, cigarette smoke and vaping aerosol (e-cigarettes) are linked to lung inflammation and lowered immune function (which could worsen a severe case of corona virus).

According to a study by scientists from Chapel Hill, where they study showed that using
e-cigarette overpowers the activity of
immune-and-inflammatory-response genes in our nasal cells.

The results of e-cigarettes are actually far more worse than normal smoking cigarettes. And another study showed that the smokers are more likely to be infected by corona virus. (7th paragraph last sentence). As of now, the results of the studies show no direct connection (in human tests), but given that smoking and vaping do well-established harm to the immune system, it seems prudent to assume they might make coronavirus infections worse.

So it’s advisable that you shouldn’t smoke during this time of rampant cases of the virus.
