Do you know anyone that is thinking of self harming, is depressed and maybe even wanting to commit suicide? Do this!!
This pandemic has affected everyone, in every part of the world. Some people can handle their worries effectively. Many have support from governments, NGOs, family and network of friends. However, many too have also been affected and can't get out of their anxiety and worry. If anxiety is not solved within a short period of time, it could lead to long term mental health problems.
If someone talks to you about any problem that they are facing, try to break the conversation into two parts.
1.The problem
2. "What if...." meaning the consequences if the problem is not solved
Solution:
1. Guide the person to solve the problem
2. Ignore the "what if....." try not to bring up consequences of the problem
No point talking about "what ifs..." Consequences are not a definite event, it may not happen. Right now it only exist in the head as abstract thought energy. This though energy will bounce around in the head and makes one feel more anxiety. By talking and repeating thought energy, it will make it stronger and more over whelming.
Summary:
Solving the problem means, if no food, get food, no money, get work or borrow, no place to stay, rent a room, cannot pay loans, Central Banks or banks have departments to solve debt problems, declare a bankrupt etc.
There are many resources out there to help people in need. Either from governments or NGOs and civil societies. As such, get a list of these resources and point these distressed people in the right direction to solve the problem.
Don't lead the person into talking about consequences, "what if...". Consequences are just abstract thought energy. This energy will bounce around in their heads and nobody can help.
The only way to reduce this though energy is Meditation. Meditation focuses on the present, it stops the day dreaming, stops the worrying, stops the spacing out and living in their heads. Pay attention to the present and this abstract energy will dissipate slowly like an echo. Poof, and it's gone 🙏
