I am always on YouTube as Malaysia has been on lock down on and off for more than a year now. There were some video recommendations of budgie rearing as pets and I clicked on one where a pet budgie could speak to his human when he is lonely. I have rescued dogs, and even though they communicate with me via their behavior and barks, they can't parrot human speech.

After some research on the internet, I decided to go to a pet store to purchase a budgie. The only criterion was that it is a young male regardless of colour or breed. Many pet stores did not have stock as suppliers could not cross state boarders. After visiting about 4 pet stores, I finally found one with two green budgies. So I purchased my budgie and his cage with budgie food and set home.

Therefore I officially adopted him on the first day of Ramadan, on 13 April 2021 and he adapted well to his home. He knew where the food and water are. He also checked out the cuttle bone and some shell toys I hung around his cage. I let him de-stressed on the first day to get him familiarize with the sights and sounds of my home. His cage is on my dining table, as such he will feel less isolated and he knows he is part of the pack.

Step-up training  was on the second day and he pick up the instructions to step-up on my finger with a spray of millet quite easily. With that achieved, I brought him and his cage to an enclosed room to allow him to free fly. Every time I see him, I will say "Excuse me!" "Whatcha doing!".

On 31st May, exactly about one month at the end of Ramadan, he flew to me, pearched on my finger and said "Excuse me!" "Whatcha doing!". I was in a state of shock! I didn't expect him to speak. After his free flight time, I put him back into his cage. I guess he was also happy to be able to parrot back what his human is saying, because there was no stopping him after that. So now when he sees me he will say "Excuse me!" "Whatcha doing!"

Recently, I taught him more words. Now he can repeat "Notti bird" "good boy" and "muaks" (kiss).
