I believe that the most used and abused word in the english language is the word "Love". I had written an article before as Love being the most abused word and many years later I still believe it is. Why do I believe that this is true as I see it so commonly and freely used.
I say I love a certain pair of shoes and I use the same word love to say I love my children. So do I love my shoes like I love my children or is there a different connotation to the word. I hope you get where I am going. So why do we use it when we really mean two different things. The love we have for our children is far greater for most normal people than the shoes they wear.
The reason Love is so used and abused is because we do not have another word in the english language to differentiate the meaning. Using the word without understanding the real meaning is not expressing our feelings and emotions in a correct manner.
The greek language had levels or different words to mean love. The love of God is a deep and intrinsic emotion that is inbuilt in our hearts and souls. So is the love for our families and loved ones, the feelings for objects is not so deep so it is understood whereas in English it is not so.
That being said who would put their child in harms way? We would not, as we love them dearly but if a shoe or a pizza that we say we love we would not mind losing it. So when using this word Love we should think twice before uttering it as it could be sometimes used to manipulate the situation as a person would do by saying they loved another so as to use them or get the better of them.
When I think of the word Love, I think the greatest love the world has seen was when Jesus died for us on the cross as greater love than this no man had that he laid down his life for his friends.
