Teatro Real: The temple of opera in Madrid

By Edu_tus | edutusworld | 19 Jan 2025

The Teatro Real, located in Plaza de Oriente, opposite the majestic Royal Palace, is one of the great opera houses in Europe and a symbol of Madrid's cultural wealth. Opened in 1850, this theatre has witnessed the history of the city and countless performances that have left their mark on the world of art.
The imposing neoclassical façade of the theatre, designed by Antonio López Aguado, hides a modern and technologically advanced interior after the renovations carried out at the end of the 20th century. Its horseshoe-shaped main hall has a capacity for more than 1,700 spectators and is elegantly decorated, including its spectacular central chandelier that illuminates the performances.

The Teatro Real is not only a space to enjoy world-renowned operas, but also concerts, ballets and other cultural events that make it an essential place for lovers of the performing arts.
Furthermore, its strategic location in the historic centre of Madrid surrounds it with other iconic landmarks, such as the Sabatini Gardens and the Plaza de Oriente, making the Teatro Real a destination that combines art, history and beauty in one place.
