Integer Overflow Vulnerability; Why Truebit Protocol faces Security Breach

By WiseKing | EduCrypto | 12 Jan 2026

In the early hour of today, 12th January 2026 the SlowMist Security team reveal an analysis data on the security incident on Truebit Protocol. It was learnt that Truebit Protocol was attacked by hackers because of overflow of interger vulnerability in the purchase contrac. The vulnerability allows the attackers to mint Truebit Protocol token (TRU) at nearly zero cost.

This mint resulted to the loss of 8,535 Ethereum (ETH) which the SlowMist Security team announced. According to their report, the root cause was the lack of overflow protection mechanism in the Truebit Protocol contract. The stolen fund (8,535 ETH) was then transferred to Tornado Cash. Investigations are still on-going.
