What does "XBT" mean in crypto?

After being in crypto a while you may be wondering what does the term "XBT" mean? You may have seen it in your favorite users twitter handle or your friends may have said it before. But what does it mean?

In short your answer is that XBT means BTC. As in it is a competing ticker symbol to reference Bitcoin. XBT was the abbreviation given to Bitcoin by the International Standards Organization. The abbreviation makes Bitcoin more legitimate in a currency sense.

So which one should you use? Currently BTC is the more popular abbreviation and most people currently use it. Therefore people are more likely to understand what you are talking about when you use it. But the X in XBT stands for a currency without borders so it is probably the more technically correct term. Personally I think it does not matter which ticker you prefer to use. Overtime we will see which one becomes the dominate ticker.
