My goal with this blog series is to present my personal journey with a "high stakes" investing option. I heard about Ethereum Capital at the beginning of August, did some research, and decided to invest 3 ETH into it. I want to be clear, I am not a financial advisor, what follows is my personal experience and should not be taken as financial advice; what you do with your money is up to you. My personal goal, through monthly reinvesting, is to try and get to 1 ETH in dividends daily through this smart-contract.
For an overview of what Ethereum Capital is, please read the first post in this series: Ethereum Capital — Earning Daily Dividends, Part 1: My First Five Days
August's Data
- August 4th & 5th I didn't track the current value of the ETH Credits, and subsequently can't project a true "cash out" value.
What does the data say?
As with every cryptocurrency the value (and in this case earned dividends) fluctuates constantly. During the month of August, I've earned dividends ranging 0.002 – 0.078 ETH, with a median return of .01 ETH (0.33% of the initial investment) daily. This totaled 0.381 ETH, that's a return of 12.7% of the invested amount. While its not 100x, like some cryptos have done... it is a fairly consistent passive income stream. Additionally, since ethereum has increased in value, I could have cashed out yesterday with 40% more USD than I started with; but that is not my goal.
Has my plan changed?
Nope, my goal is still to get to the point where I'm earning 1 ETH per day in dividends; it just might take longer than planned. After the first week, I was thinking I could reach my goal in as little as 9 months; after a month's worth of data, its looking like I will be earning about 0.25 ETH daily dividends in two years. However, I can't predict the future and if a large enough influx of people buy into the contract I could very easily reach and surpass my 1 ETH goal in under a year.
Yesterday after logging the data, I took the earned 0.381 ETH and reinvested it into the contract. I'm glad I did this yesterday, for the gas price was only 200 GWEI; at the time of this writing its 471. I did find it interesting that I needed to have ETH in my connected wallet to pay the gas fee. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but with prices nearing $30 USD for this contract the option to take the gas price out of the reinvested dividends would be nice (yesterday it cost me $7.90 to reinvest, currently it costs $28.42).
Moving Forward
Today I earned 0.014 ETH ($6.85) in dividends (0.41% of the new total investment of 3.381 ETH); starting off the month with a decent return. As of today—while not financial advice—check out the contract; it's performing well for me.
