Axie infinity, wow! What a cool concept and leader in blockchain gaming. It continues to impress me and we are still early in the games development. If you have not heard of it or have been putting it off. You should reconsider. It's growing and growing fast and the best time to join is now! Rome wasn't built in a day after all. ;-)
In this article I'm going to go over a great many things about Axie Infinity and anyone slightly interested should have a read. However If you already play and are knowledgeable you'll find only the basics herein. If you want advanced tactics and expert tips on breeding and choosing PVP Axie's you'll have to keep looking. This is for the beginners. I also made a video. It's 50 minutes long but I try to cover everything you'll need. I know I'm a little long winded but I try to cover everything a beginner needs. (Don't forget to subscribe and follow!)
(Shortly after the release of this video land game play demo was released)
There is a lot to go over so I'll start with The Axies. Pretty much everything in the game revolves around them. You can fight with them in arena (PVP) battles -earning (SLP)- you can progress with them in adventure mode (PVE) -earning(SLP)- and now just added today. You can now roam Lunacia with Project K (although this demo is only available to land owners and is temporary, it gives a glance at what is to come!) You can breed your Axie with SLP (crypto) and every single Axie is unique. In turn you can buy and sell Axie for Ethereum. Each is considered an NFT.(Non-fungible token). Lets take a look at a couple Axie and break it down.
As Stated each Axie is unique in appearance and in skills/stats. Shown here you can see the stats on the top and the skills shown on the cards. The Parts help dictate which skills each Axie receives. This is all based on the genes each Axie receives from it's parents. There is a complicated Dominant and recessive formula we wont get into here however it's important in the breeding of Axie.
There are several types of Axie. Beast, Aquatic, Plant, Bird, Bug, Reptile, Mech, Dawn, and Dusk. Each has their own strengths and weakness and have an influence on the stats.
Taken from Axie Infinity.com
[ HP- The amount of damage your Axie can take before being knocked out.
Morale- Morale increases critical strike chance. It also makes entering last stand more likely and adds more last stand “ticks”.
Skill- Skill adds damage when an Axie plays multiple cards at once (combo). The extra damage is calculated like this: (card attack * skill )/ 500
Speed- Speed determines turn order. Faster Axies attack first. Speed also decreases an Axie’s chance of being the victim of a critical strike. If two Axies have the same speed, this is how attack order is determined: High speed > Low HP > High Skill > High Morale > Low Fighter ID
An Axie’s stats are dependent on two variables: its class and its body parts. ]
You'll also note each Axie has an ID number. This is a unique number that identifies each Axie in the order it was born. Lastly you'll notice Axie lvl. This increases the stats in PVE. Not in PvP. Each Axie in PVP maintains the stats it's given once it reaches adulthood. There is much more to know and understand however armed with this knowledge you can understand Axie and how they work to get started. Don't forget the best part, naming your Axie!
Lets talk about gameplay.
Axie is a turn based battle game. Speed dictates turn order. However before each round begins each player is given a preset amount of cards based on the skills each Axie has. These cards are chosen at random and the amount each Axie is given is random up to a max amount (depending on type of gameplay). Additionally the player is given limited energy to start and each skill cost a predetermined amount of energy. You can choose from the skills available and once you are ready you can begin the battle. Your 3 Axie will then follow the actions you gave them. This repeats until one side or the other is dead. There are some variations for PVP and PVE content however the general structure is very similar. Noting the vast array of unique Axie you can have different strategies for both PVE and PVP. Additionally the METAs for PVP are continually changing. Understanding the strengths and weakness of an Axie and the limits placed in battle adds a fun and interesting battle strategy I enjoy thoroughly. PVP and PVE gameplay featured in the video.
Obviously this only touches the surface of gameplay especially in PVP.
Something new that was released just over a day ago (at the time of writing this) is Land gameplay! I'm excited and have been waiting a while to have a peak! Unfortunately it's only a demo and only available to those who posses land. However I'm happy to share my brief experiences as it gives us a glimpse into things to come.
If you happen to own land you can actually participate in this demo right now! When you download the new land game play you are prompted to select 3 Axie to bring into Lunacia. These Axie can interreact with the environment. Your land and neutral land, can be farmed/mined for resources and you can participate in PVE battles. For now the interactions are limited. I expect more interactions with the environment in the future. With these resources you gather you can build various furniture on your land or upgrade your plot. Additionally you can place artifacts previously earned upon your land. This shows huge potential for even more depth and gameplay in this game.
Axie Infinity Tokens
Lets talk about SLP and AXS
SLP or Small Love Potion is an ERC20 token. This token can be bought and sold on most major exchanges. This tokens most valuable use (IMO) is it's use in breeding Axie. When you decide to breed 2 Axie they consume these potions to create a new Axie. There is also a fee associated with raising Axie and Ethereum Gas fees as well. SLP is earned in game in both adventure and arena mode. You have a hard daily cap in adventure and a soft daily cap in arena. You're limited to how well you do and how much energy allotted/used.
AXS is also an ERC20 token and can bought and sold on most major exchanges, however AXS is different. AXS holders will be able to participate in governance. Allowing them to form the game in the future and come together to make Axie infinity a more decentralized game. AXS holders will also be able to stake their tokens, allowing them to share in the profits gathered from breeding and land sales and other profits generated from the Axie universe. Lastly it will have marketplace features and allow users to participate in possible events and even certain auctions and functions. Owning this token allows the owners to help decide the future of Axie. The power is in their hands. Very cool!
Marketplace and scholarship program
Last thing I'd like to talk about is how you can start playing and earning SLP for free. As you can see, in the Axie marketplace. Axie are not free. This is one of the largest barriers in the game. Without coming down to hard on the devs. There should be a way to onboard free or with little cost or many will immediately turn away. In the future they may have a initiation set up with soulbound (account bound) axie. That can't be sold, bought or breed. This would allow players to get started and enjoy this awesome game. Hopefully sooner instead of later.
For now we have a only a couple options. Bite the bullet and spend around $100.00 (USD) in Ethereum to buy the min required of 3 Axies to get started or join the scholarship program created by the community. Many players have extra Axie. Tens, hundreds and even thousands of extra Axie. To help migrate new players the community has done something really smart.
I'll explain. A user with extra Axie can create a new MavisHub account and a new Ethereum wallet. He then transfers at least 3 Axie over to the the newly created Ethereum wallet. From Mavishub you are unable to make executive operations. Such as buying/selling/breeding Axie. You can however still play and earn from the game. This is where someone with extra Axie and someone who can't afford to get started or is not willing to pay the price to get started can benefit from each other. The provider gives the MavisHub information to the new user but not the Ethereum wallet info. This way the provider still maintains ownership of the Axie but the new player can start earning. There is some trust given both ways. The provider trusts that the new user wont Violate the TOS and getting the account possibly banned. The new user trusts that once the minimum threshold is reached the earned SLP will be sent and not kept. This is an imperfect solution however for now it's the only way new players can join and earn for free. A dedicated new player (at current prices) could earn enough in under 2 months to get his/her own team started and push forward to enjoy all the very cool stuff available in this game. I also showcase a plethora of ways to earn Crypto on my Youtube channel to help expedite your progress.
Well folks I hope I've been able to explain things properly and thoroughly so you can understand the game and so you can understand how to get started. I hope I've been able to peek some interest in players who have been on the fence and players who have never learned about Axie Infinity. This game is awesome and I firmly believe it will continue to get even better as time goes by. I'm in for the long term and I hope to see you there. Feel free to add me "Poorboycrypto"
