My Thoughts on Tipping in the USA

My Thoughts on Tipping in the USA

For better or for worse, tipping is a huge part of American culture.

You must tip all bartenders, tour guides, restaurants waiters/waitresses, and anyone else in the service industry.

The rest of the world, with the exception of a few countries, doesn't have much of a tipping culture.

In some countries (i.e. Japan), tipping is considered rude and will confuse the waiter/waitress! Every time I come back home to the States after a long trip abroad (like I am now), I get frustrating with tipping.

I never know how much to give or how little to give.

Why is it the customer's choice to decide the salary of the worker? In my eyes, it makes a lot more sense to pay the service worker a higher salary so tipping is optional.

What are your viewpoints on America's tipping culture? I'd love to hear your thoughts below!
