alcemy is said to use a method called Solve Et Coagula witch loosely trans lates to desolving and coagulating. Breaking up each object to obtain the Body of a object on its own and the mind of an object on its own and the Spirit on an object on its own. the spirit oof an object can be seen as the essence of that object. for example if we where to take honey and ferment it the product after fermentation and then distiling the product the left over product that did not distill will be the body of the honey the product that was distilled will be the mind and distilling the mind of the honey again will produce the spirit of honey. the method of fermetation was used for desolving and the distil was used for coagulation.
