Como buen aficionado a la cerveza, una de las cosas que no se puede dejar de hacer en la vida, es visitar la Oktoberfest de Múnich. La famosa fiesta de la cerveza alemana donde las jarras de cerveza son de 1 litro y te las sirve una simpática (y exhuberante) teutona en traje tradicional.

Pero como de momento y hasta la fecha no he podido visitar el Oktoberfest y para la siguiente queda casi un año (y no sabremos que pasará con el tema del Covid19), lo que si he podido hacer es aprovechar para ver el estreno en Netflix de la miniserie «Oktoberfest: sangre y cerveza». Antes de seguir, ahí va una pequeña introducción:

Curl Prank es un cervecero de Nuremberg que llega a Múnich con la única intención de revolucionar el Oktoberfest con la construcción de una carpa con capacidad para 6.000 personas. Lo que no se imagina son los problemas que se encontrará por el camino, que van desde cómo su hija se enamora del hijo de un cervecero local, o como los fabricantes locales se opondrán a su intención de cambiar su festival de la cerveza.

La serie es alemana, y nada mas empezar, advierten que está basada en hechos reales. Lo curioso del tema es que después de ver los 6 capítulos que la componen, con una duración media aproximada de 40 minutos, parece que la verdadera historia es otra, pero vamos paso a paso.

El origen del Oktoberfest se remonta al año 1.810, año en el que el príncipe Ludwig se casó con la princesa Teresa y la forma de celebrarlo con el pueblo  fue ofreciendo una gran fiesta a las puertas de la ciudad, en un prado, que en alemán es wies'n. Como la princesa se llamaba Teresa, a ese prado se le llamó Theresienwiese, y es con la abreviación wies'n cómo se ha terminado conociendo en Múnich esta fiesta. A partir de aquí, el Oktoberfest ha pasado por multitud de situaciones complicadas: su suspensión durante varios años debido a la 1ª Guerra Mundial, un ataque terrorista el 26 de Septiembre de 1.980 que se saldó con la muerte de 13 personas... Pero hoy día, pese a todo, sigue en pie, y en el año 2.010 celebró su 200º Aniversario.

But since at the moment and to date I have not been able to visit the Oktoberfest and for the next one there is almost a year left (and we will not know what will happen with the Covid19 issue), what I have been able to do is take the opportunity to see the premiere on Netflix of the miniseries "Oktoberfest: Blood and Beer." Before continuing, here is a short introduction:

Curl Prank is a Nuremberg brewer who comes to Munich with the sole intention of revolutionizing Oktoberfest with the construction of a 6,000-seat tent. What you may not imagine are the problems you will encounter along the way, ranging from how your daughter falls in love with the son of a local brewer, or how local manufacturers will oppose your intention to change your beer festival.

The series is German, and as soon as it begins, they warn that it is based on real events. The curious thing about the subject is that after seeing the 6 chapters that compose it, with an approximate average duration of 40 minutes, it seems that the true story is another, but we go step by step.

Pero volviendo a la miniserie, cuando he buscado información sobre la historia real, por ningún sitio aparece Curl Prank, el protagonista de la serie. Su nombre en la vida real fue Georg Lang, y por no dar muchas mas pistas, Lang consiguió construir su carpa pese a las limitaciones impuestas por los estamentos locales de la misma forma que se consiguen actualmente en casi cualquier parte del mundo: a base de dinero, sobornos y en algunas ocasiones, usando la fuerza. Así llego a tener su propia carpa para 6.000 personas en lugar de una taberna como el resto de cerveceros locales.

La serie merece la pena verla, está muy bien ambientada, y son 6 capítulos, por lo que se ve bastante bien. 

But going back to the miniseries, when I have looked for information about the real story, nowhere does Curl Prank, the protagonist of the series, appear. His name in real life was Georg Lang, and by not giving many more clues, Lang managed to build his tent despite the limitations imposed by the local authorities in the same way that is currently achieved in almost any part of the world: based on money, bribes, and sometimes using force. Thus he got to have his own tent for 6,000 people instead of a tavern like the rest of the local brewers.

The series is worth seeing, it is very well set, and there are 6 chapters, so it looks pretty good.
