My art zoom is going to start back up on Wednesdays, so I am very very excited about that. We got together tonight for the first time in a while, and I decided to bust out my charcoal - it's NUTS how different working with charcoal is from working with pencils. Anyhow, in honor of the impending Year of the Dragon, I decided to try to draw Meryl Streep:
It's super hard to make details happen - even smudging was weird - I would drop a tiny bit of charcoal, thinking to use it to create a shading gradient, and when I went to smudge it with my finger the original bit would darken and become a weird birthmark (that's what happened on her upper forehead, for example). I have to practice using charcoals, clearly.
All that said, I am pretty happy with how she came out. I may try again with pencils, see if I can make her more recognizable.
