The Basics versus the Necessary

The Basics versus the Necessary

I once heard one of those Indian gurus say "meditation is for those who have food at home" and the explanation that followed was truly significant, emphasizing the fact that meditation is for those who can choose to meditate and search for "being" and that trying to calm the ego was for the moment that one could identify it, and that when hungry, without work or without being able to feed the family, no one thinks about meditation. I still reflect a lot on this and recently I watched a video on YouTube reporting a monastery where parents took their children to become monks from a very young age, who undergo rigorous training. However, the conclusion of this article was exactly what the Indian guru had said previously, "all those parents were extremely poor and left their children in the monastery because it was a guarantee that they would have food and a life, despite the rigorous training they underwent. So I came to the conclusion that to achieve the perception of the body and its function in being the "temple" of consciousness in which we live, it itself has to come first, no one can fast because they don't have anything to eat, first you will have to have something eat and then choose to fast, and that's what meditation is like, if we don't have the basics (food) we can't look for what we need (meditation).
