3.1 billion from the social assistance program went to betting houses!

Did you know that the money from the "Bolsa Família" program, which should help families put food on the table, is being used for online gambling? A study by the Central Bank showed that in August 2024 alone, beneficiaries spent around R$3.1 billion on games like the famous "Tigris" game. Do you know how this is possible thanks to PIX, the fast payment system that facilitates these transfers? It is revolting to think that while many people use the benefit to survive, there are people who prefer to gamble this money, and there are many. It is estimated that more than 5 million people from the "Bolsa Família" program sent money to these gambling platforms. On average, each person spent R$100.00, which may seem like little, but when you add it all up, it is an absurd amount. For those who don't know, "Bolsa Família" is a program created to help those living in poverty in Brazil. The goal is to provide basic needs, such as food, health, and education. However, when this money ends up in betting shops, it is not fulfilling its purpose. Worse still, many of these people go into debt trying to recover what they lost.

In view of this, the Brazilian government has been moving the Ministry of Social Development against these acts, planning ways to prevent the benefit from being used for this purpose. The use of Pix for betting may be blocked for those who receive "Bolsa Família" and betting shops may even be banned in Brazil if no action is taken to solve the problem of gambling addiction. The problem is that gambling is addictive and designed to trap people.

They bet, lose, and then try again, thinking they'll win next time. Meanwhile, the money that should have paid for food or medicine is all gone. Of course, not everyone who receives Bolsa Família does this, but the situation is serious enough to raise an alarm. The program was created to help families have a decent life, not to fill the pockets of betting platforms. However, the government has been hypocritical, because a few months ago, Caixa Econômica Federal, Brazil's state-owned bank, has been giving signs that it will create its own betting house.

Where will all this end? What do you think of the government creating its own betting house and banning the others? Will it block the money from the Bolsa Família program when it has its own state-owned betting house?
