Al igual que la expresión "ya te cargó el payaso" que hace referencia a un final trágico, la expresión "ya chupó faros" está relacionada con la muerte, o por lo menos con un final triste para quien lo vive.

  Y es que la muerte es algo muy arraigado en la cultura mexicana, durante todo el siglo XIX nuestro país vivió una guerra tras otra y comenzando el 20 se vivió la Revolución Mexicana.

  Es precisamente durante este periodo que se acuña esta expresión, pero ¿Qué significa?. Durante esta época tan turbulenta los fusilamientos eran muy comunes, a los condenados a este tipo de muerte se les concedían un último deseo y el de muchos era fumar un cigarro. En esas épocas los cigarros "Faros" eran los más comunes. Así que "chupar" o fumar "faros" era sinónimo de una muerte inminente.

  Al igual que la expresión del payaso, chupar faros quiere decir que todo está perdido, ya no hay nada que hacer y solo queda resignarse al triste desenlace del acontecimiento.
