Voucher handouts

I think the way my town council tries to foster social cohesion, mitigate costs of living and help local businesses is quite innovative, so I thought I would share it here.

I live in Nee Soon, in which the local authorities organise community events to inculcate a sense of vibrancy among residents on the ground. Some of these events are rather interesting. I have been to a Civil Defence showcase, a kids-oriented bonding activity, as well as an unveiling of a senior citizen corner.

I venture out of my comfort zone to be sociable, but actually I just need to participate in one event. When I show up, I scan a QR code to indicate my attendance. Several months later, the Nee Soon Town Council people send me a SMS message to prompt me to click on a link to redeem $40 worth of vouchers.

They come in the form of $2 and $5 vouchers.

I will next have to find shops and stalls that display the Nee Soon Cares 2024 logo because they will be able to scan the QR code embedded within each voucher.

$40 is a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things, but since I get them just by turning up for an event, I’m not complaining! What is your town council doing to help you manage the costs of living
