Using Twee to generate collocations from a text

By cryotosensei | diaperfinancingfund | 26 Sep 2024

Previously, I wrote about how Twee has a 4 Opinions feature that allows you to generate four different opinions from the lens of 4 different people. This could assist us in setting Opinion Matching questions for our assessments.

Today, I harness its Extract Collocations from a Text feature.

I pasted the first three paragraphs of an article on chilli crabs because a comprehension passage based on it was attempted by all Year 1 students. These paragraphs amounted to 200 words. The feature can take up to 1000 words.

I expected it to extract collocations for me, but it turned out that I must highlight the words with which I would like to extract collocations. So, I chose savoury.

It came up with the following collocation for me.

Duh, I could have done that on my own! My attempt to save time foiled. :(

But I guess this feature could be useful for texts that have a lot of repeated words. Maybe I would try that again when I come across a more suitable text.
