I had a burst of inspiration yesterday. In my country, children need to sit for the Primary School Leaving Examination in order to advance to their preferred secondary school.

Instead of seeing subjects in silos, why don’t I use a thematic approach and adopt a multidisciplinary method to get my son to learn terminology and concepts?

The first topic will be solar energy because I saw it represented twice in the PSLE for the past three years. English

• Solar energy is a sustainable form of energy
• Helps the island state to reduce its carbon footprint
• By putting solar panels on strategic locations, we maximise our use of space

Chinese

• solar panel is called 太阳能板.

Science

• Solar panels trap heat energy from the sun and convert it to electrical energy
