In 2025, students were encouraged to write uplifting messages to their teachers and other adult figures who played a pivotal role in nurturing them during recess in the week that preceded Teachers’ Day celebration. The prefects facilitated the process by collating and presenting these cards to the respective teachers on the actual day of the celebrations. This year, we plan for the perfects to teach their peers to make origami for their teachers during recess time. Students are then encouraged to place their heartfelt gift inside a recycled envelope and deposit it in the locker that belongs to their teacher outside the Staff Room. Getting students to make origami as simple gifts provides a variety of benefits, including:
(1) Allowing more time for prefects to engage their peers in a shared activity of origami making;
(2) Getting students to make origami requires them to invest more time and effort than writing a note of appreciation;
(3) Honing the perseverance of students who might find it difficult to follow the steps in origami; and
(4) It allows teachers to observe and identify promising prefects who can serve as part of the Executive Committee in 2027.
(5) Most importantly, allowing them to take ownership and proactively express their appreciation by depositing their origami inside their teachers’ locker. This has the added benefit of letting students find out where their favourite teacher’s locker is!
A choice of three animals (the Leaping Frog, the Polar Bear, and the Whale) will be given to students.
