Was reading a copy of the Pri 3 Science textbook when I had an A-ha moment. The “living things respond to changes” characteristic that we so often talk about in Pri 3 is actually manifested in the plethora of behavioural adaptations exhibited by plants and animals, which happens to be the last thing children learn before their major exam. It had never occurred to me that responding to changes = adaptations. Making this connection made me have a newfound appreciation of our curriculum planners. If responding to changes is the first and last thing children learn, then their learning is deliberately planned to be circular.
This also means that I can use authentic instances of adaptions for P3 exams because all students are expected to derive is “living things respond to changes”.
