Have you ever held on to something as a memento that signifies a cherished period of your life? Well, I have. Yesterday, since my son was sick, I took the opportunity to go back to my father’s house to retrieve the PSLE booklet that was my trusty companion when I was teaching Foundation English. Coupled with my copious notes, it contained the notes I had painstakingly prepared for my students back then. I took comfort in taking a trip down memory lane, bemusedly reflecting on the fact that while my audience has changed, my teaching methods have not. Highlighting key collocations, starting sentences with a feeling, and focusing on prepositions are just some of the strategies that I impart steadfastly, come hell what may. I enjoyed this time of nostalgic reminiscing about my glorious past so much that I gradually got lulled into a fulfilling slumber!
