You know me. I have been obsessively stacking my sats from various sources. One motivation was that I wanted to see if I could purchase a gift card on the Bitrefill platform with Bitcoin. Honestly, it would probably be more worth the while if I just used fiat to purchase the gift card, but I was enticed because it appeared that Bitrefill had some partnerships with some merchants specific to my country’s context.
I had about 11,000 sats on the Zebedee app.

I keenly clicked on the “Cash Out” tab. Doing so led me to the various gift cards offered by Bitrefill that were relevant to my needs. I was attracted to the Grab voucher. Grab is our homegrown version of Uber. In fact, Uber expanded its operations in Singapore a few years ago, but was roundly trounced by Grab. Until Uber ceased all its services here. You can imagine the prevalence Grab has in our lives.

Decided to buy a $2 GrabFood voucher with my 10,071 sats. This voucher wouldn’t even cover the entire delivery fee but would yield me lots of psychological dividends because it’s so cool to get something practical with my sats!

Here’s the irritating part. It took me at least five minutes before I could drag the slide bar to confirm my purchase. Each time I tried to drag the bar, the entire confirmation screen would be dragged out of my mobile phone as well. So it was a valiant attempt to apply just the right amount of pressure so that I could drag the bar successfully.

I refused to give up and managed to purchase Grab’s gift card at long last.

I received a receipt from Bitrefill in my Gmail. It appeared that setting up a Bitrefill account would yield me 101 sats in return. Yes, I went ahead to register for an account.

I’m now a Bitrefill member!

Bitrefill is rather discerning and shrewd. I have to spend $50 before it would reveal my referral code for me.
The million sat question? Would I buy a gift card from Bitrefill again? Given that my priority was to buy a Ledger this year and stack my sats there, I think I would probably not buy a gift card anytime soon, especially since I had so much trouble dragging the slide bar. But I was grateful for this experience. I loved uncovering new things with the Lightning Network because I felt more equipped and confident with each novel endeavour!
