Excite (10 mins)
1.    Sit pupils down in assigned groups
2.    Ask pupils if they recall what SNT stands for.
3.    Write WALT on the board: Today we are learning SNT phrases to describe the characters’ feelings in Hansel and Gretel. 
4.    Hand each group an envelope that contains pictures that correspond to the five elements of a story mountain and ask pupils to arrange them in sequence.
5.    Check that pupils understand the storyline of “Hansel and Gretel”.

Experience (15 mins)
1.    Tell pupils that they will be focusing on 2 common feelings: joy and sadness
2.    Tell pupils that they will watch a snippet from “Hansel and Gretel” (the moment where the siblings chanced upon the house)
3.    Tell pupils that we can describe how a character is reacting to an event by using three ways: speech, body language, facial expression. Get them to remember these 3 ways through the acronym SBF (Sweet Best Friends)
4.    Explicitly show pupils how to observe Hansel and Gretel and generate SNT phrases for joy. Suggested questions:
How do we know that Hansel was happy? How can we describe his facial expression?
How did Gretel sound when she talked to her brother? What precise verb can we use?
5.    Record SNT phrases for joy on the board
6.    Inform pupils of their 1st task which is to generate appropriate SNT phrases for sadness 
7.    Tell pupils that they will watch a second snippet from “Hansel and Gretel” (where Hansel was locked in a cage and Gretel was made the witch’s servant)
8.    Give pupils five minutes to work out SNT phrases through SBF. Walk around to ensure they are working together to complete this task
9.    Resource manager from each group places their whiteboard at the front of the classroom
10.    Let pupils stand up to go to the front and read all group efforts. Give each pupil one sticker so that they can select what they think is the best effort
11.    Elicit responses from pupils on how they made their choice. Suggested questions:
Why did you choose this group’s writing? What caught your attention?
What did you learn from other groups’ writing? 
What were some good phrases that you remembered?
12.    Determine the group effort that received the most votes. Call it the Students’ Choice
13.    Decide on the best group effort. Call it the Teacher’s Choice. Explain to pupils what was commendable about this particular group’s writing.

1.    Consolidate the lesson by getting pupils to fill in an exit ticket: 3 things I have learnt, 2 questions I still have and 1 lesson I want to apply
2.    Collect exit tickets and highlight SBF
3.    Give pupils a sneak preview of the next lesson
