(+): Almost everyone did better than Practice Paper 1. Getting them to copy the model answer to the Specimen Paper article helped. Students demonstrated a clear awareness of how to locate the content points.
(+): Students found 5-6 content points. 

(-): Weak students still needed to be coached with regard to using sentence starters to enhance flow of writing. One student adopted a narrative style, which hindered in her completing the task. She incidentally scored the lowest because she was unable to finish it.
(-): Class has to be reminded to state the purpose right in the second sentence. About 1/3 incorporated the purpose within the body of their email.
(-): Class needs to be reminded that they have to introduce the main character in the first line as well as spell ""Yours sincerely"" accurately and indicate their full name properly. 

Next Steps
1) Individual conferencing given to all students, regardless of ability, so that they can internalise the need to include purpose in their situational writing as well as know exactly where to locate the purpose.
2) Class to be given additional model emails and letters so that they understand what is exactly missing in their own attempt.
3) I intend to compile all the various types of situational writing in one document so that students can see for themselves the conventions of each genre and avoid making mistakes. (i.e. using contractions in formal emails)

I am Amy Tan and I am writing to tell you about the excellent customer service I received at your shoe shop.

On 3 October 2023, I visited / patronised the Parkway branch of Happy Feet at 11 a.m. I was lucky enough to meet your staff member, James. Although I took half an hour to try on ten pairs of shoes, he was very helpful and patient with me. He listened attentively to me and explained the features of each pair of shoes. Thanks to him, I found a pair of shoes that fit me perfectly. I would definitely recommend my friends to visit your shop because James’ professional care will make their shopping experience more fun and pleasant. Please convey my appreciation to James and encourage him to keep up the good work.
