We join sentences to say the reason something happens or the purpose for doing something.

These conjunctions can appear in the middle of a sentence.
Black soldier fly larvae are chosen for the composting project because they are not pests for humans.
Students have boosted their understanding of life cycles for they observe how the larvae transform into pupae.
When "as" or "since" starts a sentence, a comma is needed after the introductory clause.
