ants and butterflies

Good morning, all

Lawrence and I am happy to support the streamlining of our youngest pupils’ learning experiences.

You play an important role in shaping their minds.

Insects are tested every year in the PSLE Science paper. Without fail.

If we could collectively help them to retain some key facts, this would reduce their cognitive load in the upper science years.

Not to mention how learning about insects is fun! (I only learnt about the mouth-to-mouth feeding habit of ants last year when I took my kids to KidsSTOP Singapore.)

I took the liberty to create this simple poster in which both and but were used to compare and contrast these insects.

Moving forward, could I request that:

  1. the P1 Level rep liaise with me on when and how the ant kits are to be conducted for the P1 classes? Also, add me to all P1 English SLS groups so that I could assign the pupils our YSBS SLS lesson package for the Young Entomologist Badge. When is a good time for us to roll out this lesson package?
  2. the P2 Level rep liaise with Lawrence on when and how the butterfly kits are to be conducted for their P2 peers? Similarly, add Lawrence to all P2 SLS groups.

If my son’s experience is any indication, kids these days have already learnt about the life cycle of butterflies in kindergarten. Don’t be surprised if our pupils know more about these insects than us!

Let me know how Lawrence and I can support.
