A Suspicious Man
It was a scorching afternoon. Dawn trudged her way home, tired from a long day at school. When she reached her house, she saw something shocking. A well-built Chinese man was fiddling with the door handle of her neighbour’s house. Fear surged through her body.
Dawn felt butterflies in her stomach. What if the suspicious man was a burglar? Without hesitation, she called her neighbour, Mrs Tan hastily. She wanted to warn Mrs Tan of the impending threat. She described the stranger’s features. Mrs Tan thanked Dawn for her concern, with a hint of a chuckle in her voice.
Mrs Tan explained that she had been expecting her brother, so the man fiddling with the handle was most likely him. She opened the door and hugged him. Dawn also opened her door reluctantly. A mix of embarrassment and relief washed over her. She apologised to Mrs Tan profusely for making a mistake.
In the end, Dawn learnt an important lesson. She would stay calm and not jump to conclusions in the future. She was grateful that no dreaded mishap had happened to Mrs Tan though!
