The Avalanche Trifecta

By DeeCentralized | DeeCentralized | 14 Jun 2022

As you may have heard, there is a trilemma in blockchain. It is said that a protocol isn't able to maintain a balance between decentralization, security, and scalability. As blockchains grow in any area, the other aspects begin to dwindle. Take the grand pappy of crypto, Bitcoin, for instance. It is secure through it's use of the SHA 256 encryption. It is decentralized as no single authority controls the information in it's ledger. However, Bitcoin is also unable to handle high throughput as it can only process about 7 transactions per second, so it's not really scalable. This is not just a problem with Bitcoin, though, as all blockchain protocols face this trilemma. Avalanche, a layer 1 smart contract platform, decided the best move is to have three blockchains work together to find the right balance.

The Avalanche network is made up of 3 different blockchains designed to meet specific needs on the platform. There is the X-Chain that allows for the creation and transfer of digital smart assets utilizing the Avalanche Consensus Protocol. There is the P-Chain that allows the creation of subnets and synchronizes the validators on the network. Finally, they have the C-Chain which allows for the creation of new smart contracts as well as the easy migration and execution of EVM smart contracts. Both the P-Chain and C-Chain make use of the Snowman Consensus Protocol. By allowing different chains to complete different tasks, Avalanche, in theory, could obtain decentralization, scalability, and security on it's chain with out sacrificing in any category.

AVAX has a max supply of 720,000,000 with a total supply of 404,229,626. With a circulating supply of 280,978,165 coins, AVAX has a market cap of $4,521,038,808.03 USD with AVAX currently trading at a price of $16.32 USD as of 6/13/2022. AVAX reached it's all time high on 11/21/2021 with a price of $146.22 USD. It reached it's all time low on 12/31/2020 with a price of $2.79 USD. Prior to making any financial investment decisions, be sure to complete your own research and consult a financial expert.
