Looking at my week of music listening data

Looking at my week of music listening data

By SwayVee | day to day | 5 Feb 2025

I track my music listening via last.fm as I have always been interested in statistics around all the things I love. I have used this service for almost five years now, and it has been cool to watch my taste evolve over the years. I wanted to start writing some blog posts based on my weekly report which tracks cool things like how long I listened, and some of my top artists, albums and tracks. Links and media will be included so you can check out some of my favorites if you are interested :)

Listening Report: January 24 - January 30

Quick Stats:

Total Plays: 1,063 (152 plays/day)

Last week's artist breakdown was a really cool mixture of diverse styles from Jam Bands, Grindcore, and diverse Electronic styles from Drum & Bass to Ambient, and Neurohop.

My top played artist was the legendary Tipper, which comes as no surprise as he has been my top played artist on average for a few years now. I was lucky enough to catch 10 sets from him in 2024, and 2 already in 2025! Check out the new ambient release from Tipper, "Bullet Holes and Such"

It was cool to see 3mouth make my top five as a new artist to me. Out of NYC, they have a really unique take on DnB/Jungle style music, incorporating liquid and ambient/intelligent type tones seamlessly with a variety of drum styles including Gabber. Really unique stuff. They also have some releases and mixes incorporating hardstyle and other diverse styles on their soundcloud.

The String Cheese Incident was my top instrument-based band, with their jam style. I've been making a point going back through their discography and saving some favorite songs to playlists On the opposite end of the rock spectrum, Pig Destroyer were the second most played with their incredibly fast and aggressive grindcore style.

Unique Tracks: 876

I was on a huge shoegaze kick at the beginning of the week. I think Lush is one of the best to represent that sound other than the obvious My Bloody Valentine. Check out the Lush tune "Kiss Chase" - my top played track of last week

I had this banger on repeat all week. Gnarly modulated basslines over a cool beat. Check out "Pzow" from Fika out of Denver.

The previous reports were interesting but I think this graphic does the best justice in showing my taste for the week. For a lot of these styles, I listen to mixes or compilations of various artists which makes in harder for any specific artist to hit top in my charts. Top tags for this week: DarkPsy, PsyTrance, Ambient, IDM, Grincdcore, Shoegaze.

That's all for this week! If you discovered any new music from this, let me know in the comments. I love to connect over new music and give people recommendations based on their tastes. On the other end of that, I love to check out new music! Drop any recommendations you have. I like any weird or intricately/layered music.
