Shoegaze Anyone?

Shoegaze Anyone?

By blanjamon | Daily Music Dose | 3 Jun 2021

First blog post, a bit of a test, but want to jump right in.

Maybe it's because I'm still a sucker for even the slightest hint that My Bloody Valentine is working on new material (https://www.avclub.com/kevin-shields-says-new-my-bloody-valentine-songs-are-co-1846922085), or maybe because I am slightly hungover and it is raining in Seoul and I need something gauzy to cover my brain, but there is a whole lot of shoegaze on my office speakers today. Had a small surprise this morning when I realized that Japanese noise titans Xinlisupreme has continued to crank out albums since the '90s, and their most recent (2018) is a joyous, cacophonous mess. Check I Am Not Shinzo Abe (2018) if you need your head cleared, muddied, or melted. Or simply if you want to wake up the neighbors:

For those unfamiliar with Xinlisupreme, it is worth the time and headspace to go back and revisit some of their older gems like All You Need Is Love Was Not True from the epic Tomorrow Never Comes:

Awesome band, if for any other reason than to remind you that you can still make a whole lot of noise in 2021 without sounding like some sort of '90s sausage-fest noise throwback.

And, while on the topic of (mostly forgotten) Asian shoegaze, if you are feeling xinlisupreme, Korean contemporaries ZzzAam are worth a listen:

Now, back to work. And if you ever feel like you are working too hard, remember the sad scene of a young Billy Corgan staying up all night trying to recreate the Kevin Shields' guitar sound by multi-tracking. Bloated.
