JaguarLou's Top Three QB Selections

JaguarLou's Top Three QB Selections

Whether you’re playing Daily Fantasy Football or season long, I think we can all agree that a successful fantasy season is contingent on smart Quarterback selection. This season we have more options than ever with several young, talented Quarterbacks that you can grab in the later rounds for season long or roster for value in Daily Fantasy. Let’s take a closer look...

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Welcome to the year of mobile Quarterbacks. Regardless of if you’re playing DFS or season long, it would be smart to roster a mobile Quarterback for this upcoming season. Last season, Lamar Jackson reminded us all what a mobile Quarterback with accuracy is capable of. Kyler Murray, Deshaun Watson, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson ran for a combined 2,673 yards last season - 1,206 yards of which belonged to Lamar Jackson. All four of these players we’re top 50 rushing last season (for all positions). These four players are the Quarterbacks that I will be investing in this year. Why? I’ll tell you.

A mobile Quarterback has two main fantasy benefits. One, a dangerous Quarterback out of the pocket often results in Safety's biting. What does it mean when a Safety bites? It simply means a Safety comes off his protection to help contain the mobile Quarterback. When this happens, big plays open up. With the emergence of Buffalo’s #1 Wide Receiver John Brown and now with the acquisition of Stephen Diggs, Josh Allen has a variety of options. Brown can easily handle the long ball and Diggs is the perfect wide-out to handle passes 15 yards or closer. He’ll have a ton of room to run! Not to mention, in my opinion, Diggs has the best hands in the NFL.

The second fantasy benefit of having a mobile Quarterback is more obvious...Rushing yards. Depending on your league format, rushing yards/touchdowns often means major fantasy goodness! Why limit yourself to a Quarterback that only passes? Invest in a player that can score through the air and on the ground. Last season, Josh Allen not only had 510 rushing yards but also totaled 3,089 passing yards which ranked him 19th best in the league. He also led all Quarterbacks with nine rushing touchdowns. Allen has proven to be a smart, explosive player in 2019 and I’m expecting much of the same in 2020.

Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson is on another level. Baltimore’s starter led all Quarterbacks in rushing by 662 yards - Next best being Kyler Murray (544). That’s nuts! Jackson also totaled seven rushing touchdowns, ranked second best only behind Josh Allen (9). The Baltimore Ravens know what they have and intend on using him as much as possible. For season long leagues, Jackson will be my first round pick when possible and for DFS Jackson will be rostered for a large majority of my Week 1 lineups, despite the matchup. Until a defense can prove to me that they are able to slow down the former Louisville Cardinal, I will trust in Jackson for major production. Remember Week 1 of last season, Lamar threw for 324 yards and five touchdowns against the Miami Dolphins. Invest in Lamar Jackson, you won’t be disappointed.

Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tom Brady has seemingly made his decision to leave New England. Brady now has weapons in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, a coach in Bruce Arians who will undoubtedly let him do some seriously long range damage and a clean slate...not that he needed one. First let me just say, Chris Godwin is not your typical number two. Godwin ended the season with 1,333 total receiving yards which ranked 3rd best in the NFL.Considering Evan’s size and Godwin’s speed, I truly believe these two wideouts are the best wide receiver duo in the league. Pair that with the accuracy, skill and football IQ of Brady, we got ourselves a team. Since Brady announced his move to Tampa, the Bucs’ line to win the Superbowl went from 66-1 at the end of last season to 12 -1 this morning (Wednesday, March 18th, 2020). Tampa Bay has become a Super Bowl contender overnight. The only question remaining is, how much of Brady’s success was due to the talents of Bill Belichick...I guess we’ll find out this upcoming season!
