Fanduel and DraftKings have thrown some pretty wild affairs. While I haven’t been to all of them, I figured I’d give a little insight as to what happens at Live Finals (or at least the finals I’ve been to). So, for starters I’ve qualified for three live events but have attended five total. Thank you Fuego Steve and McJetser for allowing me to tag along. But in terms of finals I’ve qualified for the 2016 DraftKings MLB World finals took the cake! Yes, I happened to win 100,000 that weekend but even before that DraftKings put on one classy event!
My guest and I arrive to a town car paid by DraftKings which brought us to one of the most elegant hotels I've ever been to. Check in was easy and seamless with a DK rep there at the front desk the whole time. Once entering our room, there were a plethora of gifts such as a mini bat, backpack, External DK USB charger, a sweater….and on top of it all were two box seats to the Toronto Blue Jays game against the Texas Rangers. After showering, we went downstairs to check out the food situation and as soon as we could get off the elevator, a DK rep gave us city passses to the aquarium, VIP passes to CN Tower, tickets to the Zoo and much more! I know it seems like these amenities are just for fluff but they really did help me get my mind off the fact that I was competing for 1,000,000 the next day!
The day of the event was stressful. After figuring out my lineup we walked down the street to the venue where the Finals were being held. First thing I noticed, Wayne Chrebet. Yes, I said it. I walk in and see the NY Jets wideout from 95’ to 05’. At first, I thought he was a guest but turns out he was competing against me! So, that was pretty cool. Back to the tourney. I ran a 5-3 stack with five Mets and three Indians. I’ll never forget this! ALL FIVE METS HOMERED! ALL THREE INDIANS DID SHIT. I ended up coming in 6th place totaling $100,000 with three players getting goose eggs! I was 10 points out of first. That shit will eat at me until the day I die!
After the ceremony, they took the top 10 players to a club. Imagine 10 DFS nerds at the center table of a club. A massive bucket of various types of liquor was brought out but not one bottle was touched. Sahil Sud was there. I don't know if you guys remember him but he was the king! But after maybe 30 minutes of “Clubbing”, we went back to the hotel, passed out and woke up with $100,000 in my account. Life was good!
