Law enforcement scores a win against one of the most prolific ransomware criminal groups, ALPHV/BlackCat! This truly is a cybersecurity holiday gift for everyone across the digital world!
Such takedowns don’t solve ransomware, but targeting the attackers like this does makes a difference. It undermines part of their operating infrastructure, costs them time and resources to recover, provides relief for some victims, and puts psychological pressure on the criminals in understanding that law enforcement may be lurking around every corner ready to pounce (nice to have the attackers feel a bit of fear, right?!).
We need law enforcement to continue sharpening their skills and pursuing the threats. Just understand, that law enforcement alone won’t fix the ransomware threat. Only when we cut off the possibility of financial gain, by outlawing digital extortion payments, will the criminals abandon ransomware as a means of attack.
Congrats to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and their partners for a job well done! Keep up the pressure on.
