According to CRHoy, a Costa Rican local media site, a 43-year-old male visitor drowned on Hermosa beach in the Puntarenas region. Despite the fact that the late visitor is described as "Polish," the outlet gives his name as Mircea Popescu. Also confirmed by web developer Diana Coman
Costa Rican Red Cross paramedics discovered Mr. Popescu flat-lined on the beach in the early morning hours of June 23.
He started Trilema, a blog about social and personal issues, in 2008. He began blogging about Bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrencies in 2012. He created MPEx, one of the earliest Bitcoin-friendly trading systems, in April of 2012. The US Securities and Exchange Commission examined the service, and Mr. Popescu denied cooperating with the regulators.
Mircea Popescu, the man and legend of the crypto world, claimed to be the only person to ever hold a million Bitcoins (BTC).
What this can mean for the crypto community?
It can either mean that the coins could either soon hit the market or they are lost forever. This could have a drastic impact on BTC price. If they are lost forever that can cause the price to rise in the near future assuming he held the coins at the time of his untimely demise. And if this unfortunate circumstance has any correlation with the bitcoin being held by Mircea Popescu it is possible that they might be put out for sale which also can lower the price in future.
