CoolWallet S is a hardware wallet manufactured by the Taiwanese company CoolBitX and, as indicated on its website, CoolWallet S is 'The world's best Bluetooth hardware wallet for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, XRP, Bitcoin Cash and ERC20 Tokens'.

Hot and cold wallet

Hardware bills can be divided into "cold" and "hot":

• Cold tickets are those that do not have an internet connection and that rely on a physical medium to store the keys. This makes possible hacking attacks safer and more dangerous. This is why these types of wallets are often used for long-term cryptocurrencies.
• Hot wallets, by contrast, are free that are connected to the internet (like apps or web pages). In these wallets, the funds are usually easily accessible, so they are more used when more frequent use of the stored funds is required.

It can be said that CoolWallet S combines both types of wallet: it is a hardware wallet that is easily accessible by Bluetooth to a management mobile application on our phone.

CoolWallet S design

CoolWallet S has a design similar to a credit target, with similar dimensions (85.6mm x 53.98mm x 0.8mm), light, with a side button and a screen (e-paper type) that shows us the state of the battery, Bluetooth connectivity and different stored cryptocurrencies.

The CoolWallet S battery takes 2 hrs to fully charge (with a charging base that comes with the CoolWallet S), and lasts for about 2 weeks with low usage of two daily transactions (in standby mode it lasts for about 3 months) .

It is also waterproof.

Features

With CollWallet S we can both carry out transactions with cryptocurrencies (send and receive quickly), as well as invest in and track cryptocurrencies. It also has instinctive currency exchange (in case you want to trade cryptocurrencies in the short term).

Regarding the Bitcoin specifications, CoolWallet S supports transactions made with the ECDSA algorithm (elliptic curve secp256k1), BIP-32 HD and BIP-44. 

A large number of cryptocurrencies can be stored: BTC, CVH, BNB, ETH, LTC, USDT, XRP, SEN and ERC-20 Tokens.

By purchasing a CoolWallet S, which is currently priced at $ 99, we receive the CoolWallet S, the charging cradle, and a recovery seed card.

The mobile application

The mobile application, CoolBitX Crypto, with which we can connect with the CoolWallet S can be downloaded to any Android 6+ or iPhone 11+ phone.

To pair the CoolWallet S with our phone, we simply have to follow the steps indicated in the manual:

• Place the CoolWallet S on the charging base.
• Open the CoolBitX Crypto application and find the serial number that matches the CoolWallet S (located in the upper left).
• Press 'Connect' and, when requested, we enter the password that appears on the CoolWallet S.
• Finally, we press the button on the CoolWallet S to confirm the pairing.

Once the pairing is complete, in the mobile application we can already create or recover an account (using seed).

The main operations that we access from the application are shown in its lower bar:

• Wallet. By accessing this option we can see the cryptocurrencies deposited in the CoolWallet S and their value in the fiat currency that we have selected.

• Receive. From this screen we can add and copy the addresses (with the included QR code) and share them by mail or social networks. To select the cryptocurrency we do it from the top right (where an initial cryptocurrency is located) and, synchronize with the CoolWallet S the most modified balances and addresses we use the icon with the circular arrow next to the name of the currency.

• Send. From this screen we can send both cryptocurrencies and exchange them for another type. CoolWallet S is the first hardware portfolio to implement the MetaCert Protocol, which verifies the validity of recipient addresses to prevent phishing (which is one more level of security in CoolWallet S).

On the CoolWallet website you can buy a single device for $99, or access the Duo option, which offers two CoolWallet S for $159.

Conclusion

CoolWallet S is a good option to store and transact with cryptocurrencies. In addition, its design and interaction are good, and the fact of having an associated mobile application facilitates handling. Also its security level is high (for example, the Bluetooth connection is encrypted). However, although it supports a large number of cryptocurrencies, there are other options on the market that allow working with a greater number of them.
